Working at Height Regulations 2005

Below is a link to a HSE Questions and Answers Brief you may find useful regarding the new regulations on working at height.

Q&A Height regulations

Climb Tests

Climb tests are carried out when a trainee goes to the National Construction College for interview. The trainee is expected to climb a set of steeplejack ladders (the trainees are attached to a safety line at all times) where one of the instructors will be waiting at the top and a instructor is on the ground to offer assistance.

Once the trainee has reached the instructor the instructor will remove the top ladder and pass it to the trainee, who then puts it on his shoulder. The trainee then passes the ladder back to the instructor who then refixes the ladder. This normally identifies the apprentices who want to become steeplejacks.

To organise a climb test please contact either Dave Gaughran or Chris Stevenson at the Access Department, National Construction College, Bircham Newton, Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Telephone: 01485 577577.
